The Chateau de La Chauviniere is a 16th century country chateau with reception rooms restyled in the 18th century. It has been carefully restored while keeping elegant decoration, antique furniture and paintings. It is set in wonderful french and english gardens with terraces overlooking its own private valley and lake.There is a large private pool protected from the wind by old walls. It is set amidst 200 acres of secluded grounds comprising woods and shady walking paths.

The chateau and the cottage can be rented together or separatly.When the Chatau is rented, the cottage is not for better privacy.
The chateau, with 7 bedrooms,5 bathrooms, dining room, sitting room, library,and a few other rooms, is suitable for 10/12 people.

The cottage, with one double bedroom and living room, is suitable for a couple (and 2 children: 2 beds in the living rom).

La Chauviniere is located 2 miles west of Chateau-Renault(5000 inhabitants, 2 supermarkets, pharmacy, cinema, doctors, newsagent) which is on the N10 road , halfway between Vendôme (30 mns)and Tours (30 mns,center of the Loire Valley).
All main castles of the Loire valey are between 30 and 60 mns from La Chauvinière: Chambord, Blois, Chaumont, Chenonceaux,Amboise,Villandry, Langeais, Ussé, Chinon etc.
Famous vineyards are also nice to visit (and taste!): Vouvray, Bourgueil, Chinon


Initially built in the 15th century as a priory (small detached abbey for a dozen monks), at a time when they could choose the best environment (and view!), it has been enlarged in the following century.

The main floor has a drawing-room (with high quality stereo), desk-room ( with high speed internet connection, fax and printer), dining-room and kitchen. It has been redone in the late 18th century, with wood paneling and wood floor. It is decorated with antiques and paintings.
The drawing-room overlooks the valley and its lake. The dining-room has view over the gardens and park.
The basement has kept its original Salle basse (large kitchen)and salle de gardes of the 15th century with beamed ceiling, tile floor and huge chimneys.
The upper floor has 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and a library equipped with video, DVD and CD equipment, with lots of DVD'S,CD'S , books, board games and puzzles. The decoration of this floor is late 18th and 19th century style.

The kitchen include full services of dishes, glasseware, cutlery and all cooking utensiles. All bed and table linens and bath and pool towels are provided.
A separate laundry room is equipped with washing machine, dryer, and ironing facilities.

The terrace outside is equipped with a large table and chairs for dining. Resting chairs are inviting for watching the view of the small valley and lake with its numerous animals: birds (herons, kingfishers, falcons), beavers, sheep of the property, and sometimes at dusk roe-deers coming to drink.


The "maison d'amis" has been built in the 17th century. It lies on the other side of the terrace and has the same view over the valley and lake.
The rooms have beamed ceiling and tiles. The sittingroom has a chimney, DVD equipment, english and french books. The bedroom has a double bed. The sittingroom has 2 single beds, forming sofa in the day. The kitchen is fully equipped and complete services of dishes, glassware, cutlery and all cooking utensiles. All bed, table linens, bath and pool towels are provided. The bathroom is complete with toilets.

THE GROUNDS: enjoying view, gardens, park and outdoor dining

The landscape gardens, with glasshouse and rose garden offers delicate views and flowers smells.
An inviting park , with 2-centuries old trees, offers shady walking paths over 100 acres of rolling grounds streching all around the lake.
You can use the boat for rowing as well as fishing. The gazeboo on the bank of the lake is perfect for nap, isolation, writing, high tea or all of it.
A small river crosses the property for a mile.
However the main attraction can be the large swimming-pool:
It is situated in an ancient walled garden, protected from the wind, and has nice floral environment. The pool house is equipped so as to be able to lunch on site.
In addition there are recreationnal equipment such as ping pong table, croquet, badmington, bicycles.
there are tennis courts 2 miles away, as well as horse riding.
Garden furniture is available all over the place.
Pets on the property include cat, dogs, horses, ducks, poultry.
The property is maintained by a caretaker couple, husband and wife (who reside on the property in the ancient farm) and a gardener.
They take care of the grounds, pool and house and are available to handle any problems that may arise during your stay.


It is possible to have your meals prepared and your shopping provided. The caretaker's wife is an excellent cook. She will be happy to prepare either the evening or mid-day meal for your party from light summer salads to full traditionnal french recipes. If you are interested in the cooking services, please try to indicate this when you make your booking. Upon your arrival, you will meet the cook to discuss and arrange the number and type of meals desired.


La Chauvinière is in Touraine, halfway between VENDOME and TOURS.
Both are 30 mns drive away. They are interesting and ancient art cities. AMBOISE (30 mns)boasts not only its royal castle but also a nice weekly market.
BLOIS (35 mns) has nice old steets and an historical royal castle.
CHENONCEAUX is famous for its castle crossing the river Cher.
Numerous other castles are also intersting: CHAMBORD, USSE, VILLANDRY,LANGEAIS etc.


Train service from Paris is by TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) high speed train. It leaves from Montparnasse station in Paris and arrives at Vendôme in 42 mn or Tours in 52 mn. See Rental cars are available in Tours.
TOURS airport is 20 mn away, and RYANAIR operates a daily flight STANSTED/TOURS.


CHATEAU: july and august 4500 €€/week,  may, june and september 3500 €/week other months 2800 €/week.

COTTAGE: july and august 950€ €/week,june and september 650 €/week other months 500 €/week.

This include all utilities and 15 hours of housekeeping and laundry. The property is overseen by an on-site caretaker and his wife who reside in the adjacent farm.

To make a firm reservation a security deposit of 2500 €(chateau)or 300 € (cottage)will be asked.It is not refundable in case of cancellation (except if you provide a substitute).
Bank wire tranfers information will be sent to you along with the rental contract.
The rental fee must be received in full 2 weeks before arrival.
The security deposit will be refund to you within 2 weeks of departure with a satisfactory damage report. If phone charges have occured they will be deducted from the security deposit with the detailed proof of these charges .
